Nasser doctor films Israeli tanks inside medical complex

On her personal Instagram account, Dr. Amira Al-Assouli documented scenes of an Israeli tank breaching the complex, blowing a large cloud of smoke to cover its movements.

The Israeli army is currently raiding Nasser Hospital in Khan Younis after placing it under a state of siege for weeks. It said, without providing evidence, that it has information that Hamas fighters are hiding inside holding Israeli captives.

Britons increasingly support the ceasefire in Gaza: Survey.

In a new study by the data firm YouGov, 66 per cent of British respondents said they support ending the war on Gaza – up from 59 per cent in November.

Only 13 per cent agreed that “Israel should continue to take military action” in the Palestinian territory.

Moreover, 45 per cent of respondents said Israel’s attack on Gaza is not justified, compared with 24 per cent who said that it is.

The survey included 2,092 people and was conducted this week. Both in the UK and the US, public backing for a ceasefire stands in stark contrast with the two governments’ staunch support for Israel.

CIA chief meets Netanyahu, Mossad chief in Israel over captives release deal: Report

William Burns, the director of the CIA, has arrived in Israel, meeting the country’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and the head of the Mossad, its foreign intelligence service, according to the Israeli Army Radio.

The report indicated that the topic of the meeting was the potential deal with Hamas on the release of Israeli captives from Gaza.

Burns is seen as the most respected American diplomat in the region, and his visit to the Middle East happened soon before the first deal for a pause in the fighting in Gaza was struck last year.

Houthis say Red Sea attacks ‘a excellent success’

Yemen’s Iran-backed Houthis will press on with attacks on Red Sea shipping in solidarity with the Palestinians as long as Israel continues to commit “crimes” against them, their leader says.

“Our operations have a big impact on the enemy, which constitute a great success and a real triumph,” Abdulmalik al-Houthi said in a televised speech.

He said the group would continue to support the Palestinians despite US and British attacks on Houthi targets in Yemen in retaliation for the Houthi attacks on international shipping in the Red Sea.

EU condemns demolition of Abu Diab’s home in occupied East Jerusalem.

The European Union has issued a statement condemning the demolition of Fakhri Abu Diab’s home in occupied East Jerusalem, where his family had resided for 38 years.

Abu Diab, a community leader and spokesman for the Silwan neighbourhood, had his house stormed and demolished by the Israeli army on Wednesday.

“Such acts are in violation of International Humanitarian Law and undermine efforts to advance durable and lasting peace and security, which both Palestinians and Israelis deserve,” the European Union External Action Service said.

“We urge Israel to stop demolishing Palestinian homes, including in this sensitive area adjacent to the Old City. The priority is, and must be for all, to de-escalate a very tense situation.”

What you need to know about the storming of Nasser Hospital

The Israeli army is raiding the Nasser Medical Complex, southern Gaza’s largest medical facility, in the latest targeting of a medical facility after al-Shifa Hospital, al-Rantisi Children’s Hospital and al-Amal Hospital.

Here is what you need to know:

Israel has issued a statement saying it is conducting a “precise and limited” raid on Nasser Hospital. Without providing evidence, it added that the decision to storm the compound was based on information that Hamas fighters were hiding and had kept captives in the facility.
A Hamas spokesperson denied the accusations, calling them “lies”. In a statement, the group said the storming of the hospital was the continuation of Israel’s “war of extermination”.
Gaza’s Health Ministry says the army stormed the maternity ward and destroyed two ambulances. It added that the lives of intensive care patients were in grave danger.
The medical charity MSF has called on Israel to stop its “attack” on the hospital immediately. It said one of its staff was unaccounted for after the raid, and a second one had been arrested at a checkpoint while evacuating.
Our correspondents report people are being attacked by Israeli forces both inside the hospital and outside as they try to flee the facility.
An online video shows chaos in darkened corridors where shouting and gunshots can be heard amid dust and smoke. Israel had initially requested that displaced Palestinians sheltering at the hospital leave its premises while doctors and patients were allowed to stay.

Disappointing to see lack of public show of solidarity for Gaza’s journalists: CPJ chief

Jodie Ginsberg, CPJ president, tells Al Jazeera from New York that Israel’s war on Gaza is unprecedented in terms of the threat to journalists. Here are some highlights from her interview:

We documented 77 journalists killed in the Israel-Gaza war. Seventy-two of those are Palestinians. Gaza’s journalists are the only journalists able to report on what’s happening inside Gaza. International journalists have not been able to get in except for very controlled trips that the Israeli army has overseen.
It is sadly unsurprising that we’ve seen hesitancy to come out publicly in support of our journalist colleagues in Gaza, who are doing work that the international journalistic community is entirely reliant on to bring it the information, to bring the public information about the war inside Gaza.
I am disappointed, frankly, at the lack of public solidarity that we’ve seen. I think it is essential that we let our colleagues inside Gaza and also in the region know that we stand with them.
